Summary:

After unleashing an enormous oil spill into the Gulf of Mexico, BP pledged a $500 million fund for independent research only to begin internal discussions geared towards influencing the research, which could affect the civil and criminal liability of the oil giant. Environmental activist group Greenpeace used FOIA to obtain email revealing BP efforts, as well as other email showing the Obama White House trying to override assessments by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
