The USS America Carrier Veterans Association asked the U.S. Navy to reveal under FOIA the location of the USS America, the largest warship ever intentionally sunk. More than a year later, the Navy told the carrier’s former crew that the 1,037-foot aircraft carrier sat 266 miles southeast of the Outer Banks of North Carolina and three miles below the surface, the Sun-Sentinel of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., reported.
