The number of potential weapons being confiscated by airport screeners rose from 11 per 1,000 people in 2003 to about 12 per 1,000 people in 2004, according to Transportation Security Administration records obtained by the Deseret Morning News under FOIA. The TSA records revealed that from February 2002 to March 2005, passengers at U.S. airports handed over 16 million potential weapons, including firearms, knives, box cutters and sharp objects.
