Documents The Associated Press obtained through FOIA revealed that large publicized administrative fines and other assessments against those found to have violated federal regulations have been reduced dramatically, and many fines go uncollected. In one case, a $60.9 million commercial fraud assessment was reduced to $15,000. AP also reported that the Energy Department routinely issues fines it isnít permitted to collect.
