Wrap-up on the Sunshine in Government Awards

Recognition extended far beyond the convention halls of the NAA/ASNE convention. Press coverage included the Fort Wayne Journal-Gazette wrote about the award on April 19th. Rep. Boucher's award was covered by NBC 10 (WSLS) in Roanoke, Virginia and noted in an editorial by the Richmond Times-Dispatch on April 18th.

U.S. Representatives Boucher, Pence receive SGI's Sunshine Award

On April 15th, tax day for most Americans, SGI honored Representatives Rick Boucher of Virginia and Mike Pence of Indiana for their commitment and work to strengthen accountability and openness in government. The coalition presented its 2008 Sunshine Award during a ceremony at the joint convention of the American Society of Newspaper Editors and Newspaper Association of America in Washington, DC. Representatives Boucher and Pence have strongly pushed for a federal shield law to protect a reporter's sources.

SGI Honors Lawmakers Bringing Sunshine in Government

We're pleased to announce during Sunshine Week that five leaders in government will receive SGI's first annual Sunshine in Government Award for their commitment and work to strengthen open government. Government openness is critical to the health of our democracy.

The Sunshine Award was created to honor individuals who have made a significant contribution over time to open government at the federal level. The Selection Committee met in January and identified these leaders for their longstanding work to strengthen the Freedom of Information (FOIA) and other open government policies and practices.

The recipients for 2007 are:
